The Mindsets

Ten behaviours that help people think clearly, learn from reality and make better decisions.

Mindsets describe how to approach uncertain work. They are not stages to complete and they are not a checklist. Use them whenever an idea, assumption or decision needs clearer thinking.

How to use this section: Choose the mindset most relevant to the work in front of you. Read its short lesson, try the activity and carry that behaviour into the Journey.

Mindsets are different from the Journey

  • A mindset changes how you observe, question, test or decide.
  • The Journey helps you choose what work to do next.
  • The Canvas records what that work teaches you.

You do not need to master all ten before starting. Return to them when certainty, activity or enthusiasm begins moving faster than evidence.

The ten mindsets

  1. Curiosity before certainty — stay open long enough to understand.
  2. Observe before ideas — begin with real behaviour.
  3. Problems before solutions — understand the difficulty before proposing a product.
  4. Evidence before opinions — treat assumptions as something to test.
  5. Customers before code — learn through conversations and behaviour before building.
  6. Experiments before commitment — use small tests before expensive bets.
  7. Learning before scaling — understand what works before making it bigger.
  8. Systems before hustle — create repeatable ways to learn and decide.
  9. Decisions over activity — measure progress by changed understanding and action.
  10. Build with intention — give every investment a clear reason.
